Family, friends, and the Jackson Township, Pennsylvania, community are mourning the loss of James J. “Jimmy” Mahon V, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and respected independent contractor whose passing at the age of 42 has left an immeasurable void in the lives of those who knew and loved him. Jimmy passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2026, leaving behind a legacy defined by generosity, compassion, adventure, and an unwavering devotion to family.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Jimmy was the cherished son of James J. Mahon IV and Colleen (Kerdesky) Mahon of Jackson Township. He was a graduate of Lake-Lehman High School and continued his education at Wilkes University, where he further developed the curiosity and determination that would characterize his life and career.

Professionally, Jimmy built a successful career as an independent contractor, working on projects throughout the Philadelphia, Baltimore, and New Jersey regions. He was also affiliated with Local 19 of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) in Baltimore and had recently begun working with the local union in Wilkes-Barre. Colleagues respected him for his strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to help wherever he was needed.

Those closest to Jimmy remember him as a man who always placed family and friends before himself. His obituary describes him as a loving and giving soul who would do anything to help someone in need. Whether offering support during difficult times or simply making those around him feel welcomed and appreciated, Jimmy’s kindness and generosity became defining characteristics of his life.

Outside of work, Jimmy embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. He enjoyed playing disc golf, traveling, and exploring new cultures and historical sites around the world. His adventures took him across the United States as well as to Ireland, Iceland, Peru, Poland, Russia, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Finland, and Turkey. Friends admired his adventurous spirit and his passion for learning about history, art, and the diverse cultures he encountered during his travels.

Despite traveling extensively, Jimmy remained deeply connected to his Pennsylvania roots. He took great pride in his family’s coal-mining heritage and treasured every opportunity to return home. One of his favorite places was Jim Thorpe, where he enjoyed spending time whenever he was back in the state. His appreciation for history and his love for his home region reflected the values that shaped his life.

Jimmy was also a devoted uncle whose greatest joy came from spending time with his nieces and nephews. He was affectionately known as “Uncle Jimmy” to Samuel, Maia, and Isla Moyer, as well as Chloe and Sawyer Summa, who brought immense happiness to his life. His family remembers the laughter, encouragement, and unconditional love he shared with each of them, creating memories they will cherish forever.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, James J. Mahon III, and his grandmother, Joyce Ann Kerdesky. In addition to his parents, Jimmy is survived by his grandmother Anna Magill, grandfather Peter Kerdesky, sisters Colleen Moyer and Joscelyn Summa, their husbands, his beloved nieces and nephews, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and lifelong friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.

The Mahon family expressed heartfelt gratitude to Jimmy’s many friends for loving him exactly as he was—a compassionate, accepting, and caring individual who never hesitated to lift others up. A private Mass will be held at the family’s convenience, while a public celebration of Jimmy’s life will be announced at a later date. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home in Shavertown, Pennsylvania.

Though his life ended far too soon, James “Jimmy” Mahon V leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and adventure that will continue to inspire everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will forever live on through the family he cherished, the friendships he cultivated, and the countless lives he touched with his compassionate heart.
