COMPTON, Calif.  July 5, 2026 – Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department homicide detectives are investigating a fatal shooting in Compton after a man was found with gunshot wounds, prompting an active investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to reports of a shooting and discovered an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. Paramedics responded to the scene, but the victim was pronounced dead. Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau have since assumed responsibility for the investigation.

Investigators are working to establish the events leading up to the shooting, including identifying the suspect or suspects involved and determining a possible motive.
